Uterine prolapse takes place when the pelvic floor ligaments and muscles weaken and stretch, and no longer provide enough support for the uterus. Prolapse of the uterus is usually treated by doing a vaginal hysterectomy and may be combined with other surgeries for the best possible result. Postoperative pain and recovery time is noticeably reduced.
A laparoscopic surgery is performed by inserting a camera through the umbilicus (belly button) to treat a variety of conditions such as ovarian cysts, fibroids, endometriosis, ectopic (tubal) pregnancy and to assess whether the fallopian tubes are blocked. A laparoscopic hysterectomy has the benefits of less postoperative pain, a shorter recovery period and a smaller scar than a conventional abdominal hysterectomy.
A laparotomy is an incision that is made in the abdomen to determine a diagnosis. Dr Baloyi may advise the procedure in order to locate the source of pain in the pelvic or abdominal regions of the body. During the procedure, Dr Baloyi may, upon discovering the issue at hand, decide to operate to repair or remove the affected tissues.
LLETZ is an electrosurgical excision procedure used to diagnose and treat abnormal or cancerous conditions in the cervix. During the procedure, abnormal cells are removed from the cervix and sent to the lab for testing to confirm the extent of the cell abnormalities. The procedure removes all the abnormal cells found in the cervix. LLETZ may be done when vaginal or cervical issues are found during a pelvic exam. At times, they are done when abnormal cells are found during a pap smear. LLTZ is also done when cancer of the cervix or vagina is suspected.
Cystectomy is a surgery used to remove the urinary bladder. For women, a radical cystectomy also involves the removal of the ovaries, uterus, and part of the vagina. After having your bladder removed, Dr Baloyi will create a urinary diversion — a new way to store urine and have it leave your body.
A Myomectomy is the removal of fibroids from the uterus. It keeps the uterus in place and, for some women, makes pregnancy more possible than before. Myomectomy is the most preferred fibroid treatment for women who want to become pregnant. After a myomectomy, your chances of pregnancy may be improved, but the chances of success are not guaranteed.
Sterilisation via laparoscopy is a procedure that provides permanent birth control for women. Female sterilisation involves removal or obstruction of the fallopian tubes. A Laparoscopy allows Dr Baloyi to make a small incision near the navel, to complete tubal removal or tubal ligation. The smaller incision reduces recovery time following surgery and minimises the risk of complications. In most cases, the patient can leave the facility a few four hours after the laparoscopy.
The Bartholin glands are found on each side of the vaginal opening. These glands release fluids that help lubricate the vagina. Sometimes the openings of the glands become obstructed, causing fluid to build up into the gland. This results in swelling called a Bartholin's cyst. Treatment options will depend on the size of the cyst, the discomfort level and whether it's infected. Treatments may include surgical drainage or antibiotics.
Dilation and curettage is a procedure to remove tissue from inside your uterus. Dr Baloyi performs dilation and curettage to diagnose and treat certain uterine conditions, such as heavy bleeding, or to clear the uterine lining after an abortion or miscarriage. Dr Baloyi uses small instruments or a medication to open your cervix — the narrow, lower part of your uterus. He then uses a surgical instrument called a curette to remove uterine tissue.
Cervical cerclage is a treatment used for cervical weakness, or when the cervix starts to open too early or shorten during pregnancy, The procedure is used to prevent preterm birth or late miscarriage. Cervical cerclage may be done through the vagina or the abdomen. The procedure is typically performed as an outpatient procedure at a hospital or surgery centre under regional or general anaesthesia.
Dr Baloyi is on the verge of offering a state of the art procedure called Laser vaginal tautening/ reducing management. The procedure renews vaginal cells and tightens the vagina with the use of different technologies and treatments.
